The Eames Lounger and Ottoman: The Ultimate Way to Relax, Mad Men Style.

Charles Eames is one of the biggest names in the world of furniture design and he was responsible for some of the most iconic and eye-catching pieces of the 20th Century. My and many people’s favorite is the Eames Lounge Chair which has become an icon of interior design since it was first released way back in 1956 until today. The highly distinctive and luxurious design of the piece really made it stand out from the 1950’s crowd, but for anyone today familiar with the piece or not, would agree it looks as both contemporary and classy.

Seeing Charles Eames furniture pictured in their natural surroundings really highlights the elegant lines and sophisticated, flowing nature of his designs. The Lounger and Ottoman set pictured above is ultimate piece to complete a minimalist or modern styled home, but also perfect for a retro style.

As a big fan of AMC’s Mad Men, looking at any piece of classic Eames furniture makes me think of successful offices, plush living rooms and luxury home studies. I just fantasize about sitting in an Eames Lounger, wearing a three-piece Brooks Brothers suit even though I’m at home, having a scotch and smoking a cigar indoors, by a roaring fireplace, chillin’ like Don Draper. And that would somehow be my job.

The piece was originally designed back in 1956 as a birthday present for Eames’ close friend, Billy Wilder, and he fashioned it from bent rosewood and luxurious leather cushions and the end result is a lounge chair and ottoman set for the ages. Its design of molded wood and leather opens it up to a variety of two toned natural colors, letting you find a match to any décor. As art of the Herman Miller Company, he created a range of other famous pieces of furniture you’re sure to recognize, even if you didn’t know they were an Eames design, like the plastic mold chairs and padded executive chairs used in the Mad Men image here.
