18 Nov Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 55-Year-Old
One of the rarest bottles of whisky you can get your hands on was just auctioned off at Trump Toronto last month so I thought we’d take a look at the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 55-Year-Old from Glenfiddich. This is a rare item with only 11 hand-blown bottles that had been produced for the public. Seven bottles have already hit the auction block with one even reaching a high of $94,000 USD which was sold at a charity event on New York’s Liberty Island in March. This had shattered all previous sales records and definitely made a charity very happy.
The 55 year old single malt Scotch whisky honours Janet Sheed Roberts, the granddaughter of William Grant – founder of the Glenfiddich distillery – who celebrated her 110th birthday in August 2011 and is the oldest living person in Scotland. Only 11 bottles of the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve will ever be released to the public, one to celebrate each decade of her life.
So what makes this bottle of Glenfiddich so special? Well to start, the cask was filled on New Year’s Eve 1955 and since then a lot of the liquid either evaporated or soaked into the barrel. What was left was just enough whisky fill fifteen hand blown bottles. Eleven of these 55 year bottles, one to celebrate each decade of Roberts’ life, will be sold at auctions around the world over the coming twelve months to raise money for charity.
